24.10.2023

Two new orders with a total value of 31.6 million euros, for the engineered systems of marine glazing and naval architecture.

The first contract, signed with the Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard, concerns various Icon class vessels for Royal Caribbean International cruise line operator, considered among the most advanced in the world in terms of concept and tonnage. In detail, the agreement has a value of 19.4 million euros (of which 7.5 million in option) and expands an order already entrusted by the Finnish shipyard to SOMEC in 2019. The contractual integration provides for the creation of a greater surface of glazed areas, as well as the supply of motorized systems for awnings.

The second agreement, signed with the French Chantiers de l’Atlantique and worth 12.2 million euros (of which 2.5 million in option), concerns the construction of the fifth ship of the Edge series  for the Celebrity Cruises fleet, a luxury operator also part of Royal Caribbean Group. SOMEC will provide the entire “balcony package”, which includes latest generation automated vertical windows capable of optimizing spaces while ensuring the comfort of the cabins.

These new orders represent a sign of confidence in the recovery of shipbuilding – underlines SOMEC Chairman Oscar Marchetto -. A positive trend is showing up, which will generate significant orders for new ships as early as 2024 and SOMEC is ready to benefit from it“.
